Can anyone recommend restaurants in Moscow Russia?

We are going to Moscow Russia in a couple weeks and will be there for 2 days. Can anyone recommend any good restaurants? Would prefer it not be noisy touristy type restaurants.

  1. Actually there is not enough information.

I tried to find restaurant's sites in English, try this http://en.goodman.ru/
  2. I know a very good restaurant. It's called "Mu-mu", it's not expensive, the service is fast. They offer Russian dishes. The food is simply delicious there!! I love it!! I don't know their web-page, but I could give you the addresses of all "Mu-mu" restaurants. I am going to Moscow next Sat., so I'll find out. You may email me on amarantine_belle@yahoo.ca after Saturday.

    Good luck!!
  3. Moscow is a pretty big place (9 million), so it would help to know in what area you will be staying.

Russians are bored anymore with Russian food type restaurants, that's why there aren't as many of them as there are of pizzerias, American fast food, Chinese, Japanese, etc etc etc.

It's not even close to the tourist season yet, so I don't think you will have any problems of noise coming from the tourists. The noise will be from real Russians... ))

You know... I have never ordered hot food at Mu Mu's that came even close to being lukewarm. Students love Mu Mu's because it's CHEAP. I've been there a couple of dozen times intoxicated. The only thing I order there anymore is the dark beer--it's cheap! That comes lukewarm too, by the way.

Try the Exile restaurant guide. (first link below) But unfortortunately they only seem to plug restaurants who pay for advertising. The bad reviews seem to be for the restaurants that won't pay them anymore for advertising.

There is another restaurant guide at expat.ru. (2nd link) The information is fairly good on this site, but not exhaustive. Recommend that you don't actually "join" this site, because it has been poorly moderated and you will be abused.

It would help to know what type of food and price range you are wanting to find. In Moscow, high prices are absolutely no guarantee of good service or good quality.

Here are a couple of places I go.

Taras Bulba is good if you are entertaining people on their first time in Russia. It's Ukrainian food, live traditional music, and the prices aren't too high. (third link)

There is a restaurant at the top of Sparrow Hills (vorobevi gori). Off to the right side of the area where people look out to Luzhniki that has some of the best service I have seen ever in Russia. I can't remember the name. Prices were like any US compareable restaurant. (no link)

There was another place that I liked that was near Lyubanka with great prices and service. I will go through my business cards and update my answer tomorrow.
